Archives Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami Members welcomed Shaq O' Neal !!
The Miami Heat invited 100 Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami members to attend the Welcoming Ceremony for Shaquille O'Neal at the American Airlines Arena. Our members were standing at the VIP section holding up signs when Shaq acknowledged them with a smile as he walked up the red carpet to the stage. Chelsea Key, Michael Gonzalez, Michael Turner and Gabriel Everett were the winners of the Best Poster Contest and will have a chance to be a ball carrier and meet Shaq at one of the regular season home games. 9th Annual Person of the Year Dinner Honoring Mike Lowell The 9th Annual Person of the year Dinner was held at the Hyatt Downtown Miami where more than 650 guests had the opportunity to meet and honor Florida Marlins 3rd baseman, Mike Lowell. He was honored for his outstanding work with the community. Accepting this award brought Mike many good memories of when he played baseball as a child at the Hank Kline Boys & Girls Club.
Thanks to Mike Lowell this dinner was very successful, netting $88,000. Special thanks to the "Person of the Year" Committee, David P. Samson, President, Florida Marlins and Len Kasper, Florida Marlins Television Announcer for their great job emceeing the event, and to our friend Nancy Olson, Executive Director Florida Marlins Community Foundation for all her help and support. 7th Annual Bebe Rebozo Memorial Golf Classic The 7th Annual Bebe Rebozo Memorial Golf Classic was held on October 25th at the Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club. In memory of our legendary Bebe Rebozo, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami friends gathered to enjoy the day playing golf while at the same time supporting Bebe's favorite charity.
The tournament was very successful due to the generosity of Carmen Rebozo Foundation, Northern Trust Bank, Coca Cola Bottling, Rum Matusalem, Torano's Cigar, Sony Latin America and other local companies. Special thanks to Olga Guilarte and Fred Rebozo from Carmen Rebozo Foundation. Magglio Ordonez Gives Back to the Community Magglio Ordonez, right fielder, of the Chicago White Sox Donated $25,000 through Major League Baseball Players Trust for Children. The funds were used to renovate a baseball field at the Hank Kline Club which is now named the Magglio Ordonez Field. We would like to thank Magglio for his generosity and interest in helping the children of our community.
