Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami

The Mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami
It is our primary mission to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

About Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami
Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami was established in 1940. The first club was located on the corner of US-1 and 32 Avenue. Today both the Hank Kline Unit and the administrative offices remain on this property.

The organization began as a club for boys. It was not until 1985 that girls were included. There are currently six clubs throughout Miami-Dade County.

Boys & Girls Clubs is committed to serving children from all economic levels of society. It is especially important to serve children from disadvantaged neighborhoods and provide them with programs that enrich the lives of children in this community.

Who We Serve
Miami-Dade County is one of the biggest cultural melting pots in the country. Our clubs are no different. We serve children from just about every part of the world. The majority of the children are of African-American or Hispanic descent.

While this provides for a culturally enriched environment, it also present challenges. Many of these children have not been in this country very long and have struggles and insecurities to deal with. Many parents also struggle and have to work several jobs. It is a relief for them to know their child is in a safe and nurturing environment. It is great for them to have a secure place to go after school and receive homework assistance as well as participate in recreational activities. This builds confidence and improves academics. What makes these programs successful is our staff's ability to modify programs to meet the needs of these children and still provide the same quality programs throughout the clubs.

The United Way
Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami have been a United Way agency since 1947. Twenty percent of the clubs' budget comes from the United Way. The remaining funds are raised through special events, corporate donations, various foundations, grants, and individual donations.
